15-3503 Bill 20
AN AMENDMENT TO THE CITY OF ALLENTOWN ZONING ORDINANCE TO ALLOW THE EXISTING "POCKET NEIGHBORHOOD DEVELOPMENT" OPTION IN THE R-MP ZONING DISTRICT AND TO REVISE THE ZONING MAP TO APPLY THE R-MP DISTRICT TO LAND EAST OF S. ST. ELMO STREET AND GENERALLY SOUTH OF W. FAIRVIEW STREET.
I oppose the Elmo Rezone application that would allow a "Pocket Neighborhood". This is a lovely park area in the middle of the city and it should remain as such. It is a perfect area to be used as a nature teaching tool for the local elementary and junior high schools in Allentown. Also is this a "wet land" or "water shed" area and therefore is to be reserved as it is now and not be rezoned? In light of Covid 19 this meeting should be rescheduled for safer times for the public to attend.
I oppose the passage of the ordinance. The zoning as park should be retained. The property owner was granted a variance years ago for a use as a storage facility, however the property owner chose not to fully implement that use. It is wrong to bully municipal leaders with years long legal badgering to achieve more lucrative commercial uses for a property than what is in the best interest of the community. The change will increase service burden on the City and ASD.
